New Art Up in the Gallery!
It's been awhile, but I went around the house and photographed several pieces that I haven't photographed before. When you go to the gallery, the only trick is that you've got to scroll to the bottom to see the new pieces. I wish there was a way to change that! Maybe there is and I just haven't figured it out yet. These art pieces will all be for sale at www.amycreates.etsy.com in the very near future. Each one is an original and one-of-a-kind. No giclee/print dirty business going on here!
'Sedona on my Mind' photomanipulation takes Special Recognition Award

The Light-Space-Time Online Gallery recently held an art competion open only to landscape pieces. My abstract photomanipulation 'Sedona on my Mind' took home a Special Recognition award in the Painting category. This is now my second Special Recognition through Light Space Time. Artists from all over the world participated, and I'm honored to be included in the final gallery. Next month's contest is cityscapes...gonna have to dig deep if I want to participate in that one!
Embracing Our Differences 2012

Yesterday I received a letter from Coexistence Inc. and the Embracing Our Differences festival committee. There were 2,200 quotations submitted, from 17 different countries and 28 different US states. The committee chose just 39 quotations of those 2,200. And one of them was mine!
But…not entirely mine. The quote they chose was that one lyric from Torey’s song‘Open Tree’: “Sometimes Gifts Appear As Flaws.”
This quote, this lyric, means so much to me, because it’s from a song that Torey wrote just for me, all about me. It’s a song that runs through my head a lot when I’m down and depressed and feeling the weight of the world on my shoulders. That line in particular has always been rather special to me.
And now, for 2 months this spring (April and May), “Sometimes Gifts Appear As Flaws” will be posted, banner-size, on display on the Sarasota Bay front!
I haven’t blogged at all about my 2012 thus far, but let me just say that’s it’s been rather horrible. A lot of things came crashing down on me all at once, and I’ve been extremely depressed and angry as a result.
This letter from Coesxistence Inc. and Embracing Our Differences is the first piece of truly good news that I’ve received all year, and it’s a letter I’ll always cherish. Heck, I might even frame it.
Soon I’ll receive an exclusive invitation to a private reception honoring the few artists and writers chosen to represent the festival this year. Unfortunately, AZ is a long way from FL, and Torey and I just don’t have the means to make it out there. The trip to my Vegas show was do-able, but Florida is just too far and too expensive. But I still can’t wait to receive my invitation! I’ll probably frame that, too.

'Dolphin' Painting Takes Special Recognition Award 2/1/12

The Light-Space-Time Online Gallery recently held an art competion open only to women artists. My abstract acrylic - on - cardboard painting 'Dolphin' took home a Special Recognition award in the Painting category. Women from all over the world participated, and I'm honored to be included in the final gallery. Would a bigger prize be nice? Of course. But my work so often gets passed by the mainstream and the galleries, so this Special Recognition is actually quite a big deal for me.
Whoever Thought I'd Become a Website Guru?
So with the new year comes new additions to my website--minor ones really, but they're there if you look! 2012 also brings me OUT of my art block and making, of all things, baby clothes! Like hats with monkeys and onesies with skulls.
But it's not just MY website and MY Etsy that are getting new lifeblood--I've made some big changes to Torey's site, which now features music and links to facebook and twitter. Oh yeah, and on top of creating a facebook page specifically for my art, I also created one specifically for Torey's music. AND I got him a full profile set up over at ReverbNation.com.
What, praytell, would he do without me?

2011 is Off to a Great Start!

So on 12/31/10 I officially graduated from CSUDH with my MA in Humanities! Finally! That thesis project was a monster (William Blake and Artist's Books), but I made it through and I’m proud of myself for it–there were plenty of times I wanted to give up, but thanks to my Torey and my family, I kept on going.
And starting today, 1/2/11, you can see some of my digital creations on display at The Java Grounds coffee shop at 83rd and Deer Valley in Peoria, AZ. I’m the Artist of the Month for all of January. How cool is that?http://www.thejavagrounds.com The Java Grounds is a hip coffee shop with amazing prices, gorgeous jewelry and other fun merchandise for sale, and live music frequently, too. They feature a different artist every month, and I’m excited and proud to be Miss January! :’) (PS: You can catch some Yarnies for sale there, too!)
Cheers,
Amy
